PROJECT: Location Based Shopping Alerts (Verizon)

Role:

Hired by Verizon Wireless as a Product Strategist to bring  to market new mobile products that answer business needs and resonate with customers.

Challenge: 

Company wanted to address a need to increase Selects Opt-ins and a need for incremental revenue on top of existing products. Desire was to accomplish this goal leveraging carrier location capabilities and consumer desire for receiving relevant and timely deals.

Resolution:

Conducted extensive research to determine whether Verizon should enter the Location Based Shopping Alerts space. Concluded yes and then defined shopping alerts strategy and product. Based on thorough technical analysis, determined to partner externally and provided partner recommendation to senior mgmt.

Specifics:

  • Conducted extensive research on location based shopping alerts landscape. Research included using standard internet tools, digesting industry white papers, leveraging relationships with competitors to gather their insight (AT&T), hiring and managing 3rd party consultant (PWC) to provide independent view of industry and Verizon opportunity and meeting with various players in the space.
  • Based on findings, created presentation for senior management with recommendation to move forward with project. Received green light to move forward with further exploration.
  • Based on extensive meetings with key Verizon IT stakeholders, determined that product could not be built internally.
  • Authored product requirements and business case.
  • Identified top 5 potential vendors (Placecast, Amobee, Zumigo, Intersec, Brainstorm) and conducted detailed in-person and phone interviews with each vendor.
  • Provided recommendation to senior management on who vendor should be based on a complex matrix including cost, scalability, time to market, US carrier experience and turn key solution.
